In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his girlfriend's brother in Haryana's Mahendragarh district on Wednesday. The body of Pradeep Singh, a Class-11 student of a government school in Mahendergarh village, was found with his face mutilated at agriculture fields near his school.

The Class XI student was in a relationship with a junior in school. They both belonged to the same community, but their families were opposed to their relationship. The boy's family claimed that his girlfriend's relatives were allegedly nursing a grudge against him and this led to his murder. On Wednesday, the boy had gone to the school, when the girl's brother and first cousin approached him and took him to a nearby field where they allegedly murdered him. The boy's body was found in the afternoon. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. The two accused are yet to be arrested and the police are carrying out raids to trace them. Police said as a precaution they would be sending the girl to a safe house until the investigation ends.
