After a 14-year-old boy’s eardrum was damaged on being slapped by his history teacher in a Nallasopara school, the Mother Mary English High School on Wednesday expelled the teacher. The incident took place in early February, but came to light on Monday. According to the police, Rohit Kota, a Class 8 student, forgot to take his history book to school on February 2.

“When his teacher Vijal Muchala asked for the book, Rohit said he had left it at home. Four other students, too, had forgotten to get it to class. In a fit of rage, Vijal slapped Rohit so hard that his left ear started to pain. When he returned home, he complained of ache. His ear was bleeding. The doctor said Rohit’s ear had ruptured partially and he needs a surgery after a week,” his mother Sharvanti Kota had earlier said. “We had taken up the matter with the school management who did not show any remorse so we complained to the police,” said Sharvanti. Muchala was arrested on February 5 under Sections 325 and 323 of the IPC and also Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2000. She was released on bail. The doctor has permitted Rohit to attend school, said Sharvanti.
