Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday criticised Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the people by his comments pertaining to Ayudha Puja celebrations held in his office at the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

“Anjaneya may have personal views and opinions on certain issues but as Minister, he has no right to hurt the feelings and sentiments of people who undertake religious rituals with great reverence. Anjaneya has done great disservice to the people he represents,” Yeddyurappa said, while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a BJP programme organised at Devanahalli, on the outskirts of the city.

Commenting on Ayudha Puja celebrations at Vidhana Soudha, Social Welfare Minister Anjaneya has said that Vidhana Soudha is meant for dong people's work and not for performing pujas. The BJP leader further said he would like to ask Chief Minister Siddaramaiah how it is fair and right to keep Anjaneya in the Cabinet after he showed “contempt and disrespect” to the people. Anjaneya, on Thursday, had opposed puja being held in his office.

“Does Anjaneya mean to say that all those who conducted Ayudha Puja in the State Secretariat in the past were wrong? This needless and anti-people statement streaks of arrogance,” Yeddyurappa added.
