Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor-cum-director ‘Real Star’ Upendra is now set to enter politics for real. In an audio clip circulated online, Upendra expressed his desire to launch what he called a truly democratic party where money plays no role.

Upendra is expected to explicitly state his political plans on Saturday, which coincides with BJP national president Amit Shah’s arrival in the city on a three-day visit. “The need of the hour is not Rajakiya (politics), but Prajakiya (people-centric democracy),” he said in the audio clip, going on to state that he will launch his own party.

“Somebody has to take the responsibility to change things. I am ready to take it. I will take the first step to establish a party where money, caste and religion won’t matter,” he declared. “I know it is a big challenge and I am prepared to take it. He described his plans a “humble attempt to empower people in a democracy” and elect those who truly represent them.

In the audio clip Upendra talked about what he called the qualifications of elected representatives, whom he referred to as people’s servants for whom a salary is being paid. Blaming the people (himself included) for the present political, economical, and social situation, he said that representatives were being chosen on the basis of caste, religion, and money.

Citing issues such as Cauvery, Kalasa Banduri, farm suicides and so on, he said, “We need people who can find permanent solution to all these issues.” Waxing philosophical, he added: “I believe in the Bhagavad Gita verse Karmanye Vadhikarste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana (you have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action).”
