BENGALURU: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is already ahead of its rivals in using the social media to reach out to the masses is set to organise a mega ‘social media conclave’ in the city to draw up strategies to net the voters ahead of the Assembly election in the state.

The social media cell of the party is already on course to set up its full-time social media teams in all the 224 Assembly constituencies. Each team would have at least 20 members. Apart from this, the party is also enrolling enthusiastic volunteers from various professions like IT, doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.

Convenor of state BJP Social Media Cell said, “We are organising a mega conclave of BJP social media activists, which would be the biggest ever held in the state at Palace Grounds on August 6. So far about 12,000 have registered to participate in the event and we are expecting over 6,000 to turn up.”

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to inaugurate the event. Head of the BJP National IT Wing, Amit Malviya would helm the show to set the agenda, draw up strategies for the state social media wing ahead the assembly  polls.

The state BJP social media wing is also working on its plan to replicate the party’s success in Uttar Pradesh Assembly election by forming WhatsApp groups in each assembly constituency to influence the voters with pro-BJP content.

“The target is to create more than 5,000 WhatsApp groups and we have already created about 2,000,” Balaji Srinivas said. The conclave will review the progress of the initiatives and draw up more intensive, poll oriented campaigns through social media.

A monthly live interaction with BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa through Facebook live streaming would also be launched soon as part of the online voter connect campaign.

The BJP sees social media as the most cost effective means to launch its blitzkrieg against the Congress and create a buzz in its favour ahead of the Assembly elections.
