Bengaluru: Commuters from south Bengaluru will have the benefit of parking spaces at a majority of the stations on the Green Line. Six out of the 11 yet-to-be inaugurated stations will have parking lots for two-wheelers. But parking for four-wheelers will be available only at the National College and Yelachanahalli stations.

On Friday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) invited vendors to bid for operating parking lots at National College, Jayanagar, R.V. Road, Banashankari, J.P. Nagar and Yelachanahalli stations. The parking lots will be operational in around three months.

"The stations have space only for two-wheelers. We will study the demand and make additional space available after the 15-month term of the contract expires," a BMRCL official said.

Speed trials are under way on the Green Line. The entire line is expected to become operational in one month.

The parking lots in Nayandahalli and Baiyappanahalli stations on the two ends of the Purple Line are full on most days. With several stations located in congested areas, parking space has been tough to find on this route.

BMRCL will add parking space for 500 two-wheelers and 270 cars at Baiyappanahalli station. "We noticed that several commuters are parking their vehicles on the road on the NGF side. Hence, approximately 9,500 square metres will be allotted for a parking lot there," the official said.
