BENGALURU: ALL India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal on Monday admitted that there were conflicts in the state unit of the party, and said these would be resolved soon.

He is on his maiden visit to Bengaluru after his appointment as Karnataka in-charge. Venugopal was accompanied by AICC secretaries Manickam Tagore, P C Vishnunadh, Madhu Yashki Goud and Sake Saijananth.

Speaking to reporters, Venugopal said that conflicts were not uncommon, but added there was no groupism in the party.

"Our goal is to ensure that the BJP does not come to power in 2018 and the Congress wins
the majority again," he said.

The five-member team, on a three-day visit, held day-long consultations with KPCC office-bearers, district presidents and heads of various committees on an individual basis.

District leaders were also asked about caste equations in their areas and what further support had to be garnered from which section.

A party worker hoped that things would finally start moving and a decision would be taken on the new KPCC president soon. "It has dragged on for too long. The dispirited workers are really excited after the bypoll wins and we hope they take a quick decision, so we can concentrate on the coming elections," he said.

On Wednesday, the team is scheduled to meet ministers and MLAs to garner their opinion on various issues.

Earlier in the day, Venugopal said their experience in Kerala made them aware that if the programmes did not reach the people, it would be difficult to succeed and that focus would be on further strengthening the base.
