Government recommends three names for Legislative Council

Bengaluru: The State government on Tuesday recommended the names of former Bengaluru Mayor P.R. Ramesh; former Congress MLA from Ramanagaram C.M. Lingappa; and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) member Mohan Kondaji for the nominated seats in the Legislative Council.

The seats have been vacant following the completion of the term of actor Jaggesh, educationalist and social worker P.V. Krishna Bhat, and BJP leader Lehar Singh, all nominated during the previous BJP regime. However, Singh was elected to the council from the Legislative Assembly constituency.

The Congress high command cleared the names of the three candidates and the government has recommended them to Governor Vajubhai R. Vala for his consent, sources in the Secretariat said.

Though there are a dozen candidates aspiring to become members of the Upper House, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recommended Ramesh, Lingappa and Kondaji after weighing caste and other criteria, sources said.

K P Nanjundi was also in the race for the nomination of Upper House. He even threatened to launch an agitation if Congress fails to nominate him to the Upper House.
