B S Yeddyurappa appoints Srinivas Prasad as vice president of BJP

Bengaluru: Amid the tussle with Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa, BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa on Tuesday appointed former minister Srinivas Prasad as state BJP Vice President.

The appointment is expected to trigger fresh controversy as the appointment is shown to have been made on April 26, and was made public 6 days later on Tuesday. Sources in Eshwarappa camp pointed it out as yet another instance of Yeddyurappa's unilateral style of functioning.

BJP is apparently not ready to allow former minister V Srinivas Prasad to keep off active politics. Prasad who had announced his retirement from electoral politics after his recent defeat in the be-election for Nanjangud assembly seat would have to play an active role in strengthening the party base in old Mysuru region.

The move is being seen as part of the plan to engage Prasad actively in consolidating the dalit and backward community connect of the party. The party leadership sees Prasad's utility in building the party in old Mysuru region.

Meanwhile Yeddyurappa has also appointed former BBMP Corporator M Nagaraju, a Kuruba, as the special invitee for the State Executive Committee. The appointment has raised a few eyebrows as the move has come amid Yeddyurappa's ongoing tussle with KS Eshwarappa, who is also belongs to the Kuruba community.
