Bengaluru: Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar on Wednesday suspended Kalasipalya police inspector R Prakash for dereliction of duty in connection with the death of five employees of Kailash Bar and Restaurant three days ago.

After the tragedy, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy along with Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George had visited Kalasipalya where residents complained that several bars were open through the night selling liquor. According to home department officials, locals, including the councillor, told the Home Minister that often liquor was being sold through windows.

The Home Minister ordered Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar to conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action against erring officials. In the inquiry, the police inspector was found guilty of dereliction of duty. However, several police officers denied the allegations of round-the-clock sale of liquor.

“If the allegations were true, no one would have died in the fire mishap. The victims would have opened the door and escaped soon after noticing the fire. It is evident that they were fast asleep when the mishap occurred,” one police officer explained.
