Tender called for electric buses in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Minister for Transportation H M Revanna has informed that tender has been called for the purchase of 150 electric buses in the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

For the first time in the country, electric buses are being used for public transport in Karnataka. Gradually this facility will be expanded to Bengaluru-Mysuru, Bengaluru-Tumkur and Bengaluru-Kolar routes.

“For this project, the Central government will provide the funds. The companies which provide the electric buses will provide the drivers also. They will look after the technical maintenance as well. We will appoint conductors. After finalizing the tender, an agreement will be signed with the electric bus companies,” he added.

A truck terminal has been constructed at an expenditure of Rs.21 crore at Nelamangala. The work on connecting road from the main road to the terminal is over. Truck-terminal will be inaugurated soon. Even the Yashvanthpura truck terminal was also not in order. Around 80 truckloads of waste was removed and the basic facility has been provided to the truck drivers.

The government has decided to start ‘Less Traffic Day’ from February 2, Sunday. A meeting of IT-BT company heads was called on this regard. To create awareness among the public, publicity work will be carried out in various extensions. BMTC travel fare and pass fare will be less on ‘Less Traffic Day’, the minister said.
