Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka has directed Bengaluru police to pass appropriate order by December 25 on an application seeking permission to hold a New Year’s Eve entertainment event in which actor Sunny Leone and other artistes are scheduled to participate.

Vacation judge Justice B. Veerappa passed the order while disposing of a petition, filed by Bhavya H.S, proprietor of The Time Creations, an event management firm. The petitioner had complained that the city police did not act on the application submitted on December 1 for organising the event titled ‘Sunny night in Bengaluru’ on December 31.

During the hearing, Senior Counsel Uday Holla, appearing for the petitioner, claimed that the police had given permission for conduct of many such entertainment events on New Year’s Eve, but had not taken action on the petitioner’s application by “orally” citing law and order problem but not giving any communication in writing.

Meanwhile, government counsel, citing newspaper reports, told the court that the actor had given a statement about her non-participation in the event. But the judge said the court cannot go by newspaper reports, while asking whether the actress had communicated with the police in this regard. However, Holla pointed out that the event would have the participation of not only the actor alone as many other artistes, including those from Karnataka, were also scheduled to take part.
