Bengaluru: 'Namma Metro’ has hit the headlines, but again for wrong reasons. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has made it mandatory to collect separate tickets for luggage and the cost has been fixed at Rs 30 bag.

Metro commuters have expressed their anger as the company has implemented the new policy from Thursday, without any prior notice. One of the passengers said that he was stopped by the Metro officials to collect the ticket.

“Though my bag was very small, they said there is an order by the higher officials,” said the passenger adding that there is no slots mentioned about the weight of the bag. Rs 30 is charged on each and eveery bag.

"They haven't put up any notice in this regard at the station. They don’t allow our luggage if we don’t pay Rs.30. We had to pay as there was no other way out,” said a passenger calling it a systematic loot.Few commuters questioned the new policy of the BMRCL which is not in place in Delhi Metro. “There is no separate ticket for luggage in rail, KSRTC and even in BMTC.

In flights they collect Rs.20 if the luggage weighs more than 19 kgs,” said one of the passengers.BMRCL sources said, “Staff, who check the bags with the metal detectors inform passengers to collect tickets. One can’t collect money at the counter. Directions will be given to the station officers to fix the price according to the weight of the luggage”.
