Bengaluru: Around 10 lakh families living below the poverty line (BPL) will receive free LPG connections in the first phase of the Anila Bhagya scheme, which is expected to be launched in December.

Around 35 lakh families living below the poverty line in the State that do not have gas connections will receive free connections in three phases. The scheme was announced in the State Budget earlier this year.In an effort to identify beneficiaries for the scheme, district-level committees headed by the district in-charge Ministers, have been set up, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader told reporters on Thursday.

The minister said legislators in the district, who have been made members of the committee, have been tasked with identifying and providing a list of eligible beneficiaries to the committee within one week. Every gas connection, which will come with a stove, cylinder, lighter and two refills, will cost the State Rs. 4,040, he added.
