BBMP collects Rs 10.27 crore advertisement tax in 40 days

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), in its status report on the collection of arrears in advertisement tax, has told the High Court of Karnataka that it has made significant progress as Rs. 10.27 crore was collected from advertisement agencies in the past 40 days.

The seventh report was submitted during the hearing of a batch of petitions, filed by advertising agencies questioning various aspects of assessment of advertisement tax. The Court, through these petitions, has been monitoring the progress made in collection of tax after noticing that collection was being made at a snail’s pace though the total due from the agencies is around Rs. 331 crore.

It has been stated that total collected was Rs. 46 crore when the BBMP filed the sixth status report on September 13, and now the total collection has gone up to Rs. 56.27 crore.Meanwhile, the BBMP has also filed affidavits of seven joint commissioners, showing the progress of work and collection of advertisement tax in terms of the previous order passed by the court in their respective zones.Justice Vineet Kothari, who is monitoring the progress made by the BBMP, has adjourned further hearing till December 13.
