Stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Telgi passed away

Bengaluru: Abdul Karim Telgi, a convict in the counterfeit stamp paper scam, has passed away after suffering multiple organ failure.

According to hospital sources, Telgi passed away at 3.55 pm on Thursday. “Yes, he passed away at 3.55 pm today,’’ said Dr. Balaji, in-charge of trauma centre, Victoria Hosptial.He was last week admitted to Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital in a critical condition and was kept on ventilator support.

Telgi had collapsed in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail after which he was admitted to hospital. He was serving 30 years of rigorous imprisonment after he was convicted in 2007 in the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket. He was also fined Rs 202 crore for selling fake stamp papers to banks, insurance companies as well as brokerage firms.
