Bengaluru: If all goes well, the inauguration of new Indira Canteens will also bring some changes in existing canteens. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be utilising feedback received from the functioning 101 canteens opened in August.

BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad said that 50 new canteens are under construction, while the remaining 47 will be readied on November 1. A review meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss issues from the status of construction of the canteens and kitchens in the second phase to payment options for consumers.Another feedback is about the quantity of promised eatables.

“For example, if 300 grams of curd and 150 grams of sambar are promised in a meal, they say they are not being given the entire quantity. So we are planning to install machines at the canteens. People who want to ensure that they have been given the promised quantity can place their plates on the machine and weigh it,” the commissioner said.

According to the BBMP Commissioner, around four lakh people are said to be using the existing 101 Indira Canteens, which opened on August 16, each day.The BBMP Commissioner said most demand was for breakfast and lunch, not so much for dinner, with a ratio of 500 to 300 to 400 respectively. “That also differs from canteen-to-canteen. We are seeing how to rationalise food quantities based on that,” he added.
