'Imposition of any language other than the local language is unconstitutional', said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Stressing his stand on what the State calls 'imposition of Hindi', Siddaramaiah made it very clear during his Independence Day speech that, "Every State has its own official language and our constitution recognises the primacy of that language. Hence, imposition of any other language in a State is unconstitutional and it is against the spirit of formation of States on linguistic basis."

The pro-Kannada outfits have been demanding that Hindi signboards should be removed, and instead only English and Kannada be used. They have also demanded that the bank employees who have migrated to Karnataka or work, should learn Kannada within 6 months or they will be ousted. The pro-Kannada outfits also forced Namma Metro to change all signboards by removing Hindi signboards.
