Rahul Gandhi inaugurates Indira canteen, breakfast for Rs 5 and meal for Rs 10

Bengaluru: The ambitious Indira Canteen announced by chief minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget has finally seen the light of the day after being shadowed by several issues.

Rahul Gandhi, Congress vice-president and grandson of Indira Gandhi inaugurated the canteen at Kanakanapalya, near Ashoka Pillar here, on Wednesday on August 16.Speaking after inaugurating the canteen Rahul said that no person should remain hungry in the state and the canteen named after his grandmother is a great initiative.

A total of 101 canteen will be opened across the state today as against the initially announced 198 canteens. Developed on the model of Amma canteen, these outlets will daily serve vegetarian food priced at Rs 5 per plate for tiffin (breakfast and meals for lunch and dinner at Rs 10 each in 101 civic wards. The remaining 97 canteens are slated to be opened by October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
