President Pranab Mukherjee okays amendment to Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act

Bengaluru: President Pranab Mukherjee has given his consent to the amendment to the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act, 1999 which will provide 24 percent reservation in Public Work Contracts below Rs 50 Lakh for SC/STs. This Bill was originally cleared by the state legislature in April 2016. With the enactment of this amendment, reservation will be provided to contractors from SC/ ST communities in all the government tenders, including tenders called by government-run institutions, local self-governments etc.

On June 17, when President Pranab Mukherjee had visited the city to inaugurate the Metro Green Line, MLAs and MLCs belonging to SC/ ST communities had met him at Vidhana Soudha seeking his early approval for this Bill. As a result, now President has given his consent.
