Metro Greenline service covers 24.20-kms in 45 minutes during trial run

Bengaluru: Metro Greenline, which will be made operational from June 18 is expected to revolutionize the city traffic system as it will connect 24.20-kilometer distance between Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli in just 45 minutes. It is marvellous considering the fact that the BMTC buses take a minimum of 3 hours to cover the same distance.

"Presently there is no direct bus service between Bengaluru West and South. People need to change buses at multiple locations. Even cars and two-wheelers take around two hours to cover this destination. But Metro is expected to bridge all these problems," said traffic expert Goutham Shrikumar.

According to the BMRCL officials, it took a mere 45 minutes during the trial run. Nagasandra is the last station in the Bengaluru West while Yelachenahalli is the final destination on South Bengaluru.

Both these stations will connect high traffic congested roads including Tumakuru road, Bengaluru-Mangalore, Kanakapura road etc, explained an officer from BMRCL.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah will review this green line route on Wednesday evening. "He will enter the Kempegowda interchange via Upparpet police station entry point and travel in Metro," he said.

Even before the launch of full-fledged service on Greenline, the BMRCL is contemplating with the proposal of revising the fare revision, which the BMTC sources say is imperative to finance the next phases and repay the loan.
