BENGALURU: The High Court on Monday gave green signal to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to go ahead with its notification making Aadhaar compulsory for submitting application for the post of gazetted probationers.

The petition was filed by one U Aslam Gurukkal from Richmond Town against making Aadhaar mandatory. He is the trustee of India Islamic Cultural Centre.

Dismissing the PIL, a division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar said the petition was filed by a social worker who did not intend to apply for the post and added that they found no illegality in KPSC making Aadhaar compulsory.

KPSC issued a notification on May 12 for the appointment of 401 gazetted probationers (Group A and B), which said applicants should apply online and provide their Aadhaar number.

The petitioner contended that Aadhaar is voluntary and it has been reiterated by the Supreme Court. Many aspirants faced hardships when they found that KPSC had mandated Aadhaar as many of them do not have Aadhaar card to apply for exams.
