Bengaluru: Prohibitory orders under section 144 is commonly used to control mob violence. But in Bengaluru, the State Pollution Control Board wants the imposition of the same article to save a lake from further deterioration.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) which is struggling to clean the highly polluted Bellandur lake has requested the state government to impose prohibitory order under section 144 of the IPC around the lake.

In his letter to the state government, KSPCB chairman Lakshman informed that even after several warnings, people continue to throw waste in to the lake and release untreated water.

Only solution left for the government is imposing section 144 around the lake.He also requested the state government to depute police around the lake and arrest all those who trespass the lake bed.

Meanwhile, the Pollution Control Board has now directed the BWSSB and the BESCOM to disconnect water, drainage and electricity supply to around 100 houses in and around Vivek Nagar of the city where cloth dying units are functioning and allegedly releasing untreated water into the lake.
