Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate Indira Canteen on August 15

Bengaluru: The state government, which is planning to launch the ambitious Indira canteen from August 15 has decided to invite All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi for the inaugural event.

An invitation has been extended to Sonia Gandhi in this regard on June 8. According to the sources, the state government is planning to hold the event in front of Vidhana Soudha. "On Thursday, a formal invite was sent to Mrs. Gandhi from Chief Minister's Office," informed sources.

It can be recalled that Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah, in his budget speech 2017-18 had proposed launching Indira Canteen across 198 wards of the city. These canteens will provide breakfast for Rs. 5 and lunch and dinner for Rs 10. State government has already finalised the menu.
