Bengaluru: The Education Department will recruit 16,000 guest teachers in government schools shortly, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait told the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

Admitting that most schools did not have adequate class teachers, subject teachers and proper infrastructure, the Minister said measures were being initiated to ensure that each class had one teacher.

“Apart from the regular recruitments of 4,000 teachers this year and an equal number next year, we will also recruit 16,000 guest teachers. We will ensure each class has one teacher,” the minister said.

He was replying to allegations by members that the government was deliberately working towards closing down government schools and trying to encourage private schools under the guise of Right to Education (RTE).
