History made as major English news channels withdraw from BARC

Bengaluru: For the first time since its launch nearly three years ago, the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the weekly audience research platform witnessed withdrawal of all English news channels except Republic TV this week.

It can be recalled that on May 19, all the English news channels excluding Republic TV had announced withdrawal from BARC platform following company's decision to go ahead with the announcement of weekly data irrespective of objections raised by them.

On Thursday June 1, BARC announced Weekly data for Week 21 between Saturday, May 20 and Friday, May 26. As all the English news channels have withdrawn from the platform, ratings of none of the Indian English channels except RepublicTV has been published.

Republic TV with weekly impression of 1014000 continues to have dream run. But other major channels like Times Now, IBN 18, NDTV 24X7, News X, Indian Today were not in the list.
