BENGALURU: With the South Western Railway Zone dipping to the 6th position among the 16 Railway zones across the country in the cleanliness survey carried out by the Quality Council of India, Bengaluru City station was the only silver lining. It managed to get into the top ten stations in the A1 category.

Vasco Da Gama in South Western Railway, which obtained the third rank in the year 2016 rankings, has slumped to the 37th rank.

While stations were only categorised under various levels last year, individual ranks have been given this year. Bengaluru Cantonment at 156th spot and Hubballi at 226 too secured poor rankings. (SEE BOX)

Ashok Kumar Gupta, General Manager of South Western Railway, said that it was good to see both Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) and Yesvantpur put up a good performance in the list of A1 category stations.

“However, it was surprising that a well-maintained railway station like Hubballi did not get a top rank. Something extraordinary needs to be done to satisfy the passengers and better our rankings in the next year survey. We will definitely be coaxing our staff towards improving all our stations,” the official added.
