Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating the allegations of illegal mining scam during the tenure for former Chief Ministers Dharam Singh and HD Kumaraswamy is expected to seek more time to complete the investigation.

According to the sources, the Supreme Court has given three months time to the SIT to probe and furnish the report, but the SIT officials feel that as they need to refer huge volume of records, files and file notings besides financial transaction of few companies, organisations they may need more time.

According to the sources, this scam needed to be investigated from multi state/ international trade angles and the SIT needs more time to complete the investigation with proper documentation to build a watertight case. Meanwhile, JDS state president and former CM HD Kumaraswamy will appear for the investigation on Thursday.

It is now believed that confessional statement issued by former commissioner, department of mines and geology Gangaram Baderia over Jantakal ore transport issue is expected to create more problems for encounter specialist Daya Nayak, who is originally from coastal district of Udupi.

According to the sources, a team of SIT officials will be visiting Mumbai soon to ascertain whether Nayak had any close links with the accused Goyal family or not.
