Bengaluru: “I am shocked to know about the unfortunate death of Karnataka’s IAS officer in Lucknow. My condolences to his family,’’ Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters here on Wednesday.

Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies Anurag Tewari was found dead on Wednesday morning near Meera Bai Guest House in Hazaratganj area of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. Tewari, a native of Bahraich district, was posted as Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Commissioner.

“Tewari was an young and energetic officer. He, as Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies, had been working hard. I do not know the exact cause of his death.

I have deputed an IAS officer to Lucknow to get information on his death,’’ the chief minister said. Tiwari joined the civil services on July 1, 2007.

“We do not have any information on the cause of Tewari’s death. We are waiting for the details,’’ Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara said.

Tewari joined the Food and Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department in Bengaluru as Commissioner in January this year. He went to Punjab as an Election Observer for the state polls.

An electrical engineer from Lucknow University, he was also posted as Deputy Commissioner of Bidar in June 2015. Prior to this, he had served as Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu district in northwest Karnataka region.
