Techie drives her car on to footpath, hits 4, 1 dies

BENGALURU: A woman techie drove her car on to a footpath, resulting in the death of a woman, on Rama Temple Road in New Thippasandra on Tuesday morning in J.B. Nagar police station limits. Three other pedestrians got injured in the accident. The deceased has been identified as Kokila, 36, a flower vendor who succumbed to her injuries at the hospital while the other three pedestrians have been admitted to the hospital and are said to be out of danger.

The accused, Ruby Sharma, is a software engineer and works at an IT firm in Bagmane Tech Park. According to the police, around 8:45 am, while Ruby was driving her new car to work, while taking a curve near Rama Temple Road in New Thippasandra she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of clutch. The car ran on to the footpath near the curve and knocked down four pedestrians. 

Passersby rushed them to the nearby hospital and Kokila, who was critical, was shifted to Manipal hospital where she succumbed. The J.B. Nagar police rushed to the spot and registered a rash and negligent driving case. The police had detained Ruby and told her to come back on Wednesday for the arrest, as the questioning had gone till late in the evening and the formalities could not be completed on Tuesday.
