Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on his return from Dubai, urged the town planners, mainly water resources management experts and engineers in cities to replicate the Dubai model for effective utilisation of water resources.

Speaking on the sidelines of S G Balekundri Award presentation ceremony at the banquet hall of Vidhana Soudha, CM Siddaramiah said desert locations in countries like UAE and Israel have been converted into lush green spots with the effective utilisation of water resources.

Recalling the budget estimates given by engineers in the water resource department, the chief minister said the allocations exceeded the estimates. They had sought Rs 50000 Crore and during the inspection of works in the city, similar figures were given.

The government has spent Rs 45000 Crore in the last four years and the allocation will exceed the funds sought by the department. Engineers and officials have been asked to complete the ongoing projects on time, he added.
