BBMP soon to have separate governance legislation

Bengaluru: In a bid to streamline the Bengaluru city administration, the BBMP has decided to form a separate legislation on its own. State urban development department has accepted the BBMP's proposal in this regard. If everything goes as per the plan, next council will be formed based on this act.

According to the officials in the state Urban Development Department, presently the BBMP is administered as per the KMC Act, which was formed in the year 1976. "Several provisions of this act have become outdated creating hurdles for innovation in the city administration. Keeping an eye on the requirements of Bengaluru city this new act will be designed," said an officer.

BBMP proposal: According to the officials, the BBMP recently had sent a proposal in this regard. "Once state cabinet clears the proposal, the process will start. To encourage people's participation in the city administration, we are planning to engage the activists, general public, experts in the preparation of this new act which should address various challenges faced by the Bengaluru city," he concluded.
