Minister K.J. George directs BBMP officials to stop dumping debris in lakes

Bengaluru: Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George on Friday took exception to dumping of waste materials into the lakes and directed officials to initiate stern action against offenders including builders in this regard.

The minister, accompanied by Rizwan Arshad, MLC, Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner Rakesh Singh and top engineers of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike visited Nellurahalli, Siddapura and Sheelavanta lakes near Mahadevapura and heard the public grievances.

Minister George directed the Tahsildar to initiate swift action and fence the area surrounding the lakes after conducting a proper survey. All the three lakes should be properly surveyed and fenced by next month end, he added calling for stern action against offenders by police and the BBMP.

The minister directed the BBMP special commissioner to issue TDR Notification soon and pave way for taking up work before end of next month.

Minister George also directed the Executive Director (Major Roads) to put lane markings near bus shelters in Mahadevapura to avoid traffic problems following a request by Bangalore Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) Managing Director Ekroop Caur, who was also present on the spot.

BBMP Special Commissioner Manoj, who was also present, explained various measures to the public on including names in voters ID list including availability of online service. The minister said he would review the progress of works after 45 days at the same place.
