BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has asked all senior officials of the civic body to cancel their leave and not take any until the end of monsoon, except in unavoidable circumstances.

The officials include assistant engineers  Joint Commissioners (JC) of all zones, and every official ranked in between the two positions. The Commissioner announced this in an emergency meeting on Monday, convened to resolve rain-related inconveniences caused to citizens.

He sought information from all the JCs, chief engineers and executive engineers on contingency measures taken in their respective zones. “Officers should identify waterlogged areas, take action and ensure water doesn’t stagnate on roads.”

He asked officials to provide their contact details and to remove glitches in wireless walkie-talkies and other emergency systems. He further instructed that 72 temporary control rooms be set up in all sub-divisions across the city, equipped with vehicles, staff and other equipment, within three days. A total of 21 teams from the forest wing have also been formed, and each team has a vehicle.
